Introduction

Census of Government Employees is a regular work programme of the Directorate of Economics & Statistics (DES), which is undertaken at the State level. The Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Government of Meghalaya has been conducting the census on Government Employees since 1972. The last Census of Government Employees conducted was in the year 2022. It is the fifteenth publication in the series. The DES, in this particular census has taken an initiative to capture the number of employees employed in PSUs/Agencies/Banks/Registered Societies etc of the State Government and also the employees working under different Projects of the State Government.

Objective

The objective of census on Government Employees is to assess the volume of employment in the State Government Departments/Offices and also to present an analysis characterised by their Sex, Caste/Tribe, Educational qualification, Type of Post (technical/ non technical), Urban-Rural, and other related information.

Methodology

The DES in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (NIC) conducted the Census of Meghalaya State Government Employees as on 31st March 2022 by using the database of the State Government employees in the Directorate of Accounts & Treasuries, as the source of reference. Data which is not available with the Directorate of Accounts & Treasuries had to be updated by the concerned Departments.
