Organizational Structure

The Directorate has a three tier structure consisting of the following levels:

State Headquarters:

At the Headquarter the Directorate functions under the guidance and supervision of the Director as the head of the Department and is assisted by other Officers viz. Joint Director, Deputy Directors, Research Officers, Statistical Officers, Registrar and Finance and Account Officer. The Establishment Section is under the supervision of Joint Director/Deputy Director with the assistance of Registrar, Superintendent and other Ministerial Staff. The section is engaged in the administration, planning, financial and budgetary and establishment and account matters. For the smooth functioning of the Directorate at the Headquarter in each field the administration of the Directorate has been divided into 9 (nine) Sections: -

  1. Agriculture Statistics
  2. National Sample Survey
  3. National Income
  4. Census of Government Employee
  5. Publication and Reference
  6. Price Statistics
  7. Housing Statistics
  8. Economic Census
  9. Administrative and Accounts
In addition there is also one section which is looking after the Support for Statistical Strengthening project being funded by the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, Government of India

The technical works of the Directorate falling under the jurisdiction of the Section/Divisions mentioned above is carried out under the technical guidance of the Director and is assisted by Joint Director, Deputy Directors, Research Officers, Statistical Officers and other supporting technical staff.

(a) District Offices:

At the District level, there is a District Statistical Officer (DSO) in 11 (eleven) Districts out of the 12 (twelve) Districts of the state. The District Statistical Officer heads the District Statistical office of the respective District. The DSO is assisted by the technical personnel namely Inspector of Statistics, Sub-Inspector of Statistics, Primary Investigator and Field Assistants and establishment section comprising of U.D.A, L.D.A. and other Grade IV staff. The actual collection of primary statistical data from the field in respect of various rounds of National Sample Surveys is being carried out by the Primary Investigators while the field level data of crop cutting experiments (CCE) in respect of Agriculture Statistics, is being carried out by the Field Assistants, under the control, guidance and supervision of the District Statistical Officer. The primary function of the District Officer is to supervise and to ensure that such field works are carried out as per time schedule and that the compilation and submission of the same is completed in time.

(b) Block Offices:

There is one post of Sub-Inspector of Statistics in 46 (forty six) Community & Rural Development Blocks of the state and is responsible for collection and maintenance of various types of statistics at Block level. The District Statistical Officer of the concerned district exercises administrative control over the Sub-Inspector of Statistics in the Block.
